California School
This two room school house sat on a hill above the village of California at the turn of the century.
Gordon School
The Gordon School was located in Marion Township along present day Stockdale Road.  It still exists
today and has been converted into a private residence.
Main Street Stockdale
This photograph shows Main Street in Stockdale looking south toward the high school.  The O. E.
Emory Mercantile is to the right.
W8SPT - Radio Stockdale
Morton E. Riegel  started Pike County's first short wave radio station in 1938.  He was also the the
principal of the local high school.
Main Street Givens
This photograph shows the quaint community of Givens in Beaver Township about 1930.
Ray Conkel Garage
Ray Conkel operated a garage and gasoline station in the middle of the village of Stockdale
throughout the mid 1900's.

In image of the inside of Conkel's service station shows the working atmosphere of an early
automobile repairman.
Beaver Post Office
Eli Halterman served as the postmaster in Beaver from 1898 to 1914.  At the time the office was
located next to Mr. Halterman's home on West Main Street in Beaver.
B. F. West Undertaking
Benjamin Franklin West operated this shop on present day Church Street in Beaver in the late
1890's.  Like many such craftsmen in Ohio at the time, this carpenter also served as the village's
undertaker.

From 1900 to 1907
Beaver was the site of
it's own agricultural fair.
 Operated by the
Beaver Driving Society,
its facilities were later
moved to the present
county fair grounds in
Piketon.
